Ninefifty
Ninefifty is a Sicilian design brand rooted in Caltagirone – a historic city renowned for its ceramic tradition and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, centuries-old craftsmanship is combined with experimental processes and a contemporary design language. The collections bring together lava stone and terracotta, carrying both a sense of place and a distinct material presence into modern architecture.
The brand’s name refers to the temperature at which the materials transform. At 950°C, clay and lava fuse with the glaze, forming new colours, textures and surfaces. Ninefifty’s collections emerge from ongoing research and experimentation with the boundaries and potential of these materials, where each tile carries its own character.
Material, tradition and transformation
Ninefifty works with local materials and techniques from the Caltagirone area, shaped by skilled artisans with a deep understanding of the material’s inherent qualities. Terracotta introduces warmth and depth, while lava stone brings strength and a grounded, almost geological presence. Together, they create surfaces defined by variation, tactility and a subtle movement that shifts with light and use.
At the same time, Ninefifty integrates modern production methods and technology, allowing traditional forms to be reinterpreted without losing their connection to craftsmanship. This balance between the tactile and the contemporary defines the brand’s identity.
Architectural application
Ninefifty’s tiles are developed for both floors and walls and are used in projects where materiality plays a defining role. The surfaces introduce character and a sensory quality to interiors, across both residential and professional settings, offering a material expression that differs from more industrial finishes.
