Copenhagen’s central hub for democracy has been fortified with a series of granite spheres, arranged like a string of pearls, to safeguard the square from potential terrorist attacks. These spheres served as the inspiration for the design of the Christiansborg Bench. The circular bench invites visitors to pause and reflect on the state and future of democracy in an era where it faces increasing threats. Comprising 80 identical seat-and-back elements, the bench encircles the granite sphere, appearing to float like the rings of Saturn. Its structure is stabilized by a steel ring positioned at the top of the backrest.
Fredsted supplied the mahogany wood for this project.
